Crocheted Topped Hand Towels

 

My DIL loves the half hand towels that I crochet tops on to hang on her stove and around the kitchen. She says regular towels always fall on the floor, but these button around a handle and stay put.

 They are perfect for drying your hands on. I’ve kept her in kitchen hand towels for years.

 

They also work great in the bathroom. I have a hook for each of my grandkids and so they each have their own hand towel for when they come to visit.

 

I’ve seen lots of different styles where people have used yarn instead of crochet thread, but my DIL says that my design is the nicest she’s ever seen. I have to say that I also think they are very pretty. Here is my pattern:

 

HANGING HAND TOWELS

 

Needed Supplies

 

1.25 mm hook

#10 crochet thread

Single terry hand towel cut in half with cut edges serged

(if hand sewing, using a blanket stitch on the cut edge.)

(Makes 2 crocheted topped towels)

 

 Instructions

 

1) Join crochet thread and SC across serged side of towel

 

2) Row 2 - DC

 

3) Row 3 - TPL crochet, skipping every other stitch.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 12 stitches remain.

 

4) To make strap: DC until strap is approximately 4” long.

 

5) To make button hole: SC, skipping every other stitch.

Repeat until 1 stitch remains.

 

6) Single stitch 12 stitches to make loop. Join to the beginning.

 

7) TPL crochet around loop and finish off.

 

8) To make lacy edging: 3 SC, skip 1 ST, 3 SC, skip 1 ST, continuing until you have gone all the way around.

 

9) Sew button approximately where the strap part begins.

   To hang, fold strap over a handle and do up the button.
